Easier Access to Home Health Care on the Way
As more and more seniors choose to age in place, meaning they opt to remain in their own home and bring in help and care as needed, the home health care business is getting more complex. As such, there’s some activity going on right now in the senate to possibly allow medical professionals that are not doctors to order home health services for seniors.
Currently, those in roles like physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists are able to order nursing home care but not home health options. Should the bipartisan proposal go through, seniors who don’t have easy access to a physician would have more options get the home health care services they need.
With some major organizations backing the proposal, including the American Nurses Association and the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, this legislation is on its way to becoming the norm for the many seniors who benefit for home health care services.
Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.) and Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.) are sponsors of the bill.
