Located on 120 beautiful wooded acres in the foothills of the Appalachians, Kirkwood by the River is Birmingham, Alabama’s finest assisted living community. We offer assisted living, independent living, and specialty Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Incorporated as Presbyterian Homes of Birmingham, Inc. and sponsored by Independent Presbyterian Church, it is open to all people regardless of church affiliation.
Our full continuum of care includes 72 Independent Living apartments, 24 Assisted Living units, 20 Specialty Care Assisted Living units on Kirkwood Lane and a 60 bed Skilled Nursing facility offering private pay and Medicare rehab. New residents can enter at anyone of these four levels of care.
Although we enjoy our quiet and scenic campus, we are just minutes away from medical facilities, shopping centers and cultural and social events.
